We want to thank Davis Fool Bear, Ron LeBeau, and all the staff at WOZU who helped our high school students learn about butchering and processing buffalo meat during our buffalo days activities. Thanks to Game and Fish, William Kelly, and Jeff Kelly helping our students during the buffalo harvest. Also last week, high school students had the opportunity to learn about one of the Dakota ceremonies, Oinikaga (Sweat Lodge). Throughout the day, students were told teachings that go with the ceremony and helped construct one with the instruction of Mr. Grey Cloud. Once the lodge was complete, Mr. Allen Flying Bye was able to run the ceremony for students who wanted to participate.

🦬✨ Buffalo Days 2026 was a HUGE success! ✨🦬

This past Monday, students from Cannon Ball Elementary School traveled to Wozu to help process our buffalo. Students gained hands-on experience with quartering, butchering, and processing meat — learning firsthand the importance of harvesting and preparing their own food. 🍖🔪

Experiences like this bring food sovereignty to life for our students and connect them to traditional knowledge, culture, and the understanding of where our food truly comes from. 🌎🦬

A HUGE thank you goes out to Davis Fool Bear, Ron LeBeau, and all of the amazing staff at Wozu for guiding and helping our students through the buffalo processing experience. 🙌

We also want to thank Jeff Kelly, William Thompson, and the entire Game & Fish Department for helping secure a buffalo and allowing our students the opportunity to harvest the animal. 🎯🦬

This day would not have been possible without all of the incredible people, organizations, and community members who came together to support our students. Your generosity, knowledge, and willingness to teach mean more than words can express. ❤️

Wozu has processed our meat and packaged it. We are making it available to our families in the community. Please stop by the Elementary school to pick up a roast, ground beef, or steaks which will be available until disbursed to as many families as possible.

Mitakuye Oyasin. 🤝

Ms. Kloe's kindergarten class for the last few weeks has been watching some caterpillars turn into butterfly's. They finally hatched and we were able to release them. We learned how they start as an egg, turn into a caterpillar, then turn into a chrysalis, and finally a beautiful butterfly. We also know and learned that when they first hatch they need to flap their wings to get the blood pumping. What a fun unit to learn about and watch it happen!!

A huge shout out to our very own high school math teacher, Ian Fisher, for being nominated and officially recognized as the 2026 Sioux County Teacher of the Year! 🎉 This recognition reflects the passion, commitment, and impact he brings to our students every single day. From challenging students to think critically, building confidence in mathematics, and always pushing our learners and athletes to grow, Mr. Fisher continues to make a lasting difference at Solen Public School. We are incredibly proud to have him represent Sioux County and our school community. Mr. Fisher will be honored at the North Dakota County Teachers of the Year recognition event on June 23 at the State Capitol in Bismarck. Congratulations, Mr. Fisher—this honor is well deserved.
