Calling all families with 4 years olds... Pre-K Round Up will be on Wednesday, May 21st!!

Big shoutout to Sophia!
Sophia K. helped break the Standing Rock junior high records in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays! As part of our Solen/Standing Rock track co-op, she’s been putting in the work and making big things happen on the track.
We’re super proud of you, Sophia! Keep it up—this is just the beginning!

Ms. DeCouteau's Kindergarten class braved the rain to go to The Dakota Zoo for our End of the Year field trip! We had our ponchos and had so much fun! Few more days til we graduate kindergarten!

BUTTERFLIES! Mrs. Ferguson's classroom butterflies have emerged from their chrysalides. No. That is not blood in the net habitat, it is meconium . Meconium is the liquid waste left over after metamorphosis. We are very lucky to have over a dozen Painted Lady butterflies. However, the weather isn't cooperating for release. The butterflies can't be released in the rain or below 55 degrees! Summer needs to come!

3rd Grade had a blast at Tilt and Gateway to Science for their field trip last Friday! 😁

Buffalo Days 2025. Ms. Raven Heart's 2nd grade class got to participate and were hands on with the Buffalo. The students finished buffalo days making ledger.

1st Grade's Tatanka Days!
We observed the butchering and helped rub salt into the hide. We learned how to play Hand Games (and begged to play twice a day!) Mr. Maxon showed us how to safely process the buffalo using knives, grinders, scales, and vacuum sealers. To round it off, we learned the different uses of the buffalo, including leather ledger art. Overall, the experience of this year's Tatanka Days will be unforgettable!

4th Grade Night Lights have been learning how to peyote stitch with Czech beads, needle, and thread. Yesterday they were able to take their half completed projects home to finish over the summer!

Dear families,
A reminder that high school finals are next Tuesday and Wednesday. Families are invited to our end of year awards on May 22nd at 10:30 am. We will recognize our 8th grade students before they transition to high school. Senior graduation is at 6 pm on Friday May 23rd. We look forward to celebrating with our students next week.

Mr. Engel’s 4th grade class broke open some geodes on Thursday!

This week we held our Buffalo Days. Thank you to Wozu for assisting us with butchering and providing educational lessons to our students on butchering and processing. Thank you to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe for providing us with the buffalo. Thank you Standing Rock Game & Fish for assisting us with the hunt and kill. Also to Terry Hodgkiss, Miss Chloe and George Leingang for assisting our senior Mykal with the buffalo shoot as well as transporting the buffalo to the school. Also to Principals Mr. Maxon and Mr. Kalsow for their planning and determination to make this event happen.

We look forward to celebrating our Seniors next Friday May 23rd. Graduation is at 6 pm.

Attention track athletes!
Coach Fisher will be leaving the Red Gym at 7:30 AM on Saturday (May 17) for regionals.

Monday was the last day of reading groups at Cannon Ball Elementary, so Mrs. Cutting's and Mr. Engel's groups joined together to do a scavenger hunt. This involved the students implementing learned skills such as solving a cryptogram and reading a map to find clues. They found summer fun activities and finished with "End of year Candy Awards" back in the classroom.

WE HAVE CHRYSALIDES! Mrs. Ferguson's caterpillars have formed their chrysalis and begun their transformation into a butterfly! The chrysalides have been moved into their butterfly habitat. We hope to see some butterflies in 7-10 days! Can't post videos, but we learned that when bothered, the chrysalis will shake to scare off its enemies. We had some angry chrysalides today! The students thought it was pretty cool!

Ms. DeCouteau's Kindergarten class closed out our Bookworms Life Cycles unit last week. We read How a Seed Grows and planted our own seeds a few weeks ago. We read more books about plant life cycles and learned a lot! We planted tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe and various flowers and got the opportunity to write about what we learned. Plants grow flowers, and plants grow food.
